Mad Men Sew-Along..Fabric choices have been made

I first posted about the Mad Men sew-along HERE
I am sooo excited!! I just made my final fabric purchases, and cant wait to get my hands on it. I ordered the turquoise linen off Ebay, and a complimentary fabric for the front pleat came from Etsy. I went for "FUN", rather than "authentic"..It probably wont match perfectly, but I don't Care! Remember, it will be for just a "Kick" of color on the inside pleat.:) This printed linen-cotton blend is just too fabulous. It's from Melody Miller's line Ruby Star Rising in Cameo..OH my GOSH!! A perfect accent to a Mad Men Themed dress!!! I never imagined I'd find a whole series of perfectly prim 60's secretaries on fabric!!

and what's a secretary without her typewriter?? I'm planning to make a typewriter themed handbag just for fun to complete the ensemble. I'll unveil the details on my plans for that at a later date. Till next time!!

I'm starting the year off right with a finish!! Woot!! I first posted about this challenge Here.

and HERE I made it to wear while sewing..There's a handy little scissor pocket, PLUS.. who besides me is always hunting tape measures for "eye-balling" measurements?? now there it is!! sewn right to the side so that it's always ready in my lap.
and a tiny china-man pincushion at the waist, so I'll never lose my hand-embroidery needle again.I'm planning to add more scrappy bits..but the wkend(play-time) is nearly over, and "it's like the sun going down on me"..lol to para-phrase Elton John..lol. :D

Have you heard?? Mad Men begins a new season on March 25!! To celebrate, One of the gals over at No Pattern Required is hosting a Mad-Men sew-along...the pattern selected for the sew-along was inspired by the Character Peggy Olsen. while My pattern purchase isn't exactly the same, It's similar, and from the same time period. I selected this little 1964 number with a center knife-pleat flair. I'm pushing what I call, "30-15" this summer, so the double-pleat cheerleader look was a little youngish for me..:D Now, which fabrics to choose?? I've been looking for retro-inspired and I'd like to do the knife pleat in a contrast for some pizzaz, similarly as Peggy's dress. here are some of the choices I'm mulling over...
in Linen, we have this brown stuff..which i'm not wild about since I wear a BROWN Boy Scout uniform to work EVERY day..lol but with a turquoise pleat perhaps not so bad??..or maybe just go with straight-up plain turquoise??

Or maybe this plum suiting with a stripe pleat??

If YOU have a opinion, PLEASE chime-in.
Orrrr...should I stop trying for "authentic" and just have FUN? this linen with the transistor radio print sure is cute!! Although, at this angle, it looks like bathroom scales..lol Remember, Im not sold on these choices, I can be swayed..:D

Wasting time IS for the birds!
This is another design that will be added to my scrappy 2012 Resolution Apron. Some may wonder what all this stitching is about??..I'm a whimsical, sometimes creepy, figural, paper mache, sometimes cloth- (but always vintage-inspired), artiste' !!
(ar-teest) lol..well, Frankly, Its [stitching] something I can do from my couch!..honestly, since beginning a new life with a full-time job, I hadn't the energy nor the inclination for anything ambitious. It had always been my intention to get my wheels back-in-motion, and get back to my art figures, but I'm not much of a willing night-owl, so it's just not to be..not yet..Still..a creative person MUST create! So for now, I'll be stitching and hopefully something lovely will come from it. The only constant around here...is change.

Here's a picture of what I've managed to do today..
Destroy a pair of old jeans!!..:))
This is just the foundation. I'll be mixing and matching, (or not matching)scrap fabrics,appliques and all kinds of do-dads,and trims for a new scrappy apron..
the top portion of the apron, used to be the legs, I'm rearranging the front and back
pockets..
The waistband was cut away for ..well. the waistband!..lol.it is after-all already
my size, just turned around to button-up in the back. Lazy or ingenious??? you decide..LOL...
It is a pretty fun way to spend a Saturday. Will keep ya'll posted..till next time,

I've been working on inventory for my workplace since last Wednesday..BLAH!! it's been a nightmare, and nearly driving me insane, but I'm still working on my New Year's Resolution to look on the bright-side of things, and find some joy in it. :) I did waiver but after watching this little video, I feel ALOT better and smiling again.:)

When I was small.. it wasn't Christmas that was my favorite day..It was always the "Day-After"..There were always lots of left-overs, so there was No cooking, no cleaning, no chores of any kind, so I was left-alone to play with my new presents. Well that still holds true today. These are my presents from my family, who knows me so well. (not the kitty, Otis just came-by to check things out) lol..
My favorite things have always been vintage kitchen and sewing things. I'm so excited, I cant' wait to try-out my new antique chocolate mold with paper mache!
Also today, I'm looking thru vintage embroidery transfers for a New Year Challenge on the Flickr Group "New Embroidery with Vintage Patterns". a vintage embroidery design must be used to make something to convey a New Year's Resolution. I think I've thought of just the thing..I need a Attitude Adjustment!!..this past year (Or 2) have been full of Time-management, and financial challenges.
My resolution is to start seeing the Glass as Half-Full..Rather than Half-Empty..or make Lemons from Lemonade...anyways, you get the idea..lol. Here's one idea, from Hoop-Love-Transfer-Finds I've found so far for my theme..
I'm still looking for other lemony images for my over-all project, which will incorporate some thrify recycling too! So stay tuned!!This one won't take long! :)

I do love a handmade Christmas! sometimes its really hard to come up with a handmade gift idea for someone you love,..someone you WANT to take the extra time and care for.., so I would like give my thanks to everyone who posts a tutorial or shares an idea, whether it be digital, online or in-print. even though the ideas are shared to the masses, every creator puts a piece of themselves in their own creation. that said, I'm sharing my latest hand-mand Christmas Gift for giving..Its a art-form called Scherenschnitte or Paper-cutting. Plus it's something you can do that's nearly FREE and make lovely gifts for gift-giving. This was my first attempt at Scherenschnitte. This one is for my parents, and made me think of the song "I saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus". I cut my chosen design from paper I printed with sheet music of the song, and mounted it onto Christmas paper and board. The design is freely offered by the very talented and generous Cindy Ferguson
She has several beginner designs to choose from on her blog. Go check her out! her work is amazing. I am in awe of anyone who has mastered this art-form. Mine pales in comparison to hers..I'm wondering...How on Earth do they get such smooth cutting-lines in the tiniest of spaces??? You can bet I'll be giving this another try.

A couple weeks ago, I found this planter in a local thrift shop. I thought he was adorable with his mid-century spaghetti trim. No matter to me that his paint was flaking, I fixed him up, and sprayed him with a fixative to prevent further paint loss. I then Gessoed one of my plain green bottle brush trees from that store I wont mention..lol and added lots and lots of mica and glitter. Perhaps I need a few more balls, still I Love my new/old addition to my holiday collectibles.

I thought it would be a good idea to share my progress here. It gives me motivation and accountability. I'm seriously AADD(for real) and I have a habit of not finishing my projects..(ummm-hmmm)..I know I'm not alone!..lol..
Anyways, this vintage embroidery design is way too great to fall by the way-side. Ive already been working on it 3 weeks.(+ or -) HOLD ON!..before you scoff at my lack of progress, take a closer look...

the snow is made-up of HUNDREDS of tiny french knots, piggy-backed to give a textured surface effect. Am I insane for choosing to fill-in this design, rather than the MUCH quicker outlining methods I could have chosen??...YES! LOL..Especially given the fact that I'm easily bored or distracted. Not to mention I have very little free time in the evenings.
Still, I'm really quite proud with how this is coming along. :) So if anyone reads this, please help keep me focused. I really want to see this one finished. Thrift Shops for Black Friday Deals

If you haven't guessed by now, I'm not your typical Black Friday shopper.
Did you know many thrift and antique shops also had Black Friday deals?
No Traffic, no mayhem, except that which I was part of..hee.hee..check out my daughter and me hangin' with the Blue's Brothers in Dunnellon Florida where we were visiting family for Thanksgiving.

I swear I would love these in my front yard..haa.ha! I was in Heaven! I had a blast and spent very little. I found several winking santa mugs, oops, somehow they got left out of the photo-op..(I had always wanted some of those)
Here are a few more items I scored..Keep checking back here to see the projects that I have in mind for my "new-old" treasures.

And I especially love anything Anthro,these salt and pepper shakers were too cute to pass,(please excuse the lack of lighting) and I loved these vintage tea towels too.

Over the weekend, this Bible was plunked down in front of me..Hubby says "Hey! thought you might could do something with this".. His sister had sent it, not knowing what to do with it..I peered inside, and oh my..What a treasure!!..deep inside were hand-written pages of my husband's family history dating from the 1800's. There were also pressed flowers, newspaper clippings and political cartoons of the day..I'm sure my SIL didn't know all of that was in there! I'm certainly not deserving to be the keeper of their history.. Literary-wise..it's a mess..but I saw inspiration beyond the tattered pages. It's heavily laden with amazing lithographs, so I've been thinking what to do?? ah..CHRISTMAS ORNAMENTS of course!!..here is one I've started..it's the very beginning stages for sure! I'm thinking on what direction to go next..I'm sure I'll be experimenting alot with this old book..My hope is to make little treasures for each of my sisters-in-law so that everyone can have pieces of Great GrandMother's Bible.

I'm thinking some kind of resin or Diamond Glaze??..Oh I wish I had the supplies to make soldered glass ornaments.I've seen some really gorgeous ones, and these lithos would be perfect for that sort of thing. Any other Suggestions anyone??..Oh! perhaps even the Tutorial from Pat of Cre8tor's Touch he so generously shared. I'll be sure to post pictures of the end results when I'm done.

I love gloriously "foul" weather. It's days like this I get out
my humble supplies, snippets of scraps,
and of course lots of glitter to re-create ornaments of a gone-by
era.
These are soo simple and NO-sew. Just simple shapes cut from
batting , with a window cut in the middle for the bits of scrap to show
through, and cut-up cereal boxes sandwiched in the middle for shape and
durability.
The Only warning...I may be having a little bit of glitter served with supper tonight.....Ok!!make that Alot of glitter! ;-)

I found a stash of heavy cardboard thread cones, at first, I didn't know what I would do with them, I just knew I had to have them! lol..
and these hanging treat cones are what I came up with..because of my nutty sense of humor, I've been calling them "Cone-Heads"
(see previous posts to see others I've made for Halloween)..and it sort of stuck..This is the first "Cone-head" of the Christmas Season. ;-)

Halloween isn't here.. Yet, creating for winter and the Christmas season is now in full-swing here in my household.
This paper-mache' assemblage was just finished today, It's a candy box or maybe an extra-fancy gift box. The snowman and snow was sculpted right onto the box lid, and everything else is permanently attached..Although, I think the little altered paper-clay deer needs a little touch-up and something else (??) ...and maybe some little birds in the tree..(??)..just a thought..
I really can keep going with these thing..but I don't think there's much
more room on this little 6 inch box..;-)

the thrifted 2 dollar Christmas tree from Good-Will, painted black for Halloween.
I'm really so excited!!!..I've always wanted one, and budgets being what they are, a purchase wasn't possible..So I put all else aside, and set out to make my own.. (something I rarely do.).
I had been working on it in between my work schedule for the last couple months, making all the ornaments myself.
I still have a few more ornaments to finish, but
I couldn't be more pleased with the way it turned out.
I now have something I'll look forward to adding to every year.;-)

This is my latest ornament for my Halloween tree..
I didn't have much time, as today is my only day off this
week, so I didn't go into as much detail as the tassel doll we
Learned in the Hive Class from Patrick of Cre8tor's Touch.
The tassel was purchased at my local antique shop for
only a dollar, and it just said pumpkin gal to me!..lol..
So, I just sculpted a simple head and shoulder plate,
and wrapped a single chenille stem around the neck post
to extend for both arms..then the head and arms were glued
right into the center hole of the tassel. Then I added legs to the underside bell of the tassel... added leafy bits for
hands, more trims and cut-outs for embellishments. and pine petals for her shoes.
I think she turned out right cute! ;-)..and I thank Patrick of Creator's Touch again for the original idea..I've been having lots of fun with these.

I made this topper for my Halloween tree.,.
I'm so excited to finally have one,(in a earlier post, I talk about the
2 dollar Christmas tree from Good-Will that I painted black) and have been working hard to get it filled with handmade ornaments in time..
I'm also really hoping to be able to purchase some ornaments this
season from some of my favorite artists..So be looking out for me! ;-)

Kitsch'N Sink mistakes are not too horribly bad..
This was meant to be a Finial Christmas ornament..but
whoops..burnt it to a fritter while It was drying..
So I scrapped the original plan, and here we have
"Vlad", the blood sucking spider instead..lol..Even with all the paint,
He still smells like burnt marshmallows!..;-D

Oh and a final note to Hive readers..I cannot express my appreciation
for all the comments..I really enjoy reading them..However..Come to find out..it's my 10 yr old comp. that is preventing me from responding!!..Seems it's not compatible with the message board...My son tested my page on his..so I know it's definitely time for a new one..so please bear w/ me! ;-)

Below,is a pic of the final construction. I covered all the batting by hand-stitching in place a knit meant for bathing suit, and active-wear lining...As I've said before, this is the first doll of this type I ever made, And had it not been for the generosity of other doll makers, I don't think I would have the gumption to undertake the process...A special thank You to my talented friend Flora, of Bonehead Studios and also the very talented "A little Bit Wired", whose visuals were invaluable to my progress...Thank YOU to all of you out there who share the "mysterious" in Figurative Arts!

I'm Nearly done with my Nativity figure of Mary, and now here she is holding Baby Jesus...Every decision in the process has been a new experience for me. I just applied the hair today, using hair I've held onto for many years, from my daughter's first, big haircut!..I used the technique and tutorial Antonette Cely describes on her website.

A Christmas Nativity Challenge....Mary

I'm participating in Cloth Doll Artistry's Christmas Nativity Challenge.
Here is a collage of Mary and how she's been progressing. She's even further along now than the most current image. I'm hoping to have Her with Baby Jesus completed within the next couple of weeks. I had always wanted to create my very own elaborate Nativity. I'm hoping to at least have the Holy Family, and who knows, maybe the 3 Magi done by this Christmas Season. I will then will be adding angels,Shepherds, and animals as time permits. I'm expecting the whole project to take at least a couple years or more. When I'm working on them it feels like a special prayer or devotion..This truly is a personal challenge for me because this will be my first wire and clay set of "people". If you like my progress..please leave a comment. With such a ambitious project, and so much still ahead, I feel I need some cheering on!;-)

I have no idea what I'm doing...but that never
stopped me! ;-)
..I made a wire-armature skeleton
body for my clay head,(I usually make a cloth body,then add wires in the limbs)...and surprise, surprise, it stands unaided!!!
That was unexpected!!..lol ;-)
Now to build it up!..I'm trying to decide how I'm going
to proceed next...Clay over foil????....batting then skinning???
hmm..on second thought..Maybe I'll just do a simple wrap over batting method. I'll think on it some more while I now work on fine-tuning my head!

Already, nearly a quarter into the new year!
Here's a couple of things I've made since my last post..

I completed a hand-embroidered tea-towel and matching potholder
set for a spring swap.

I also participated in the neatest swap called Initially Yours..A-Z.
We were to create any character for our partners using the initial
of their first name and an accessory beginning with the initial of
their last name..
Here's what I created for my friend Heather Chandler...A hunchback hag, with
her caged canary..I've affectionately named her Old Aunt Zula of Appalachia.

And here's what Heather made for me! All the way from the United Kingdom..A Kindly King with his Heart sceptor..and look..it has my initials embroidered on it!..I will try to get a better pic later, but you can see a better pic over on Heather's blog. Isn't he fabulous???..THANK YOU again Heather!!...Did I mention how much I LOVE him?? ROFLOL;-D xo..

Seems Valentine projects are all over, so I was in the mood to participate
in a little challenge presented in one of my yahoo groups. The challenge was
to create something hand-stitched for your Valentine.

What I've Been Up To....

During these days of record low temperatures, I wanted to do something cheeky,
just for fun to keep myself entertained, and Rivkah Mizrahi's Betty Boop Doll challenge filled the bill!
We are using the vintage Betty Boop pattern that is circulated all over..Rivkah
made the astute observation that the pattern is so readily available, but has yet to ever see one made up! Given the popularity of the character, Why is that???
So that being said, my task was laid out. This doll pattern really is a hoot, and a lot of fun. I have already finished the head and body construction, and will soon bring her to life..If you would like to do the Boop, hop over to Rivkah's blog for details. (link in my side bar under Art Doll Blog) I will be posting progress
pics later on today when I return from work!!...Catch you later!!

OK!..I'm Back!!..Now more on Betty Boop's Progress!

This pattern called for knit, but I didn't have enough on hand, so I used a pale, flesh-toned cotton. The construction is also a little unusual from most dolls I've made. The arms and torso are one piece, and I had wired her fingers,arms and legs. I also trimmed down the very large hands. Thinking now,I should have done as Rivkah, and just redrawn them. I have also added darts at every bending joint to tighten up her saggy skin, which may have been the result of using cotton rather than a more elastic knit???...hoping someone else in the challenge will provide the answer! lol..The head is also very unique!..You will just have to get the pattern to see what I mean! ;-)...Even with all these little thought-provoking twists and turns,
I have found this vintage pattern very much worth doing! She was after-all, designed as a rag doll but I have added my own spin to it!..stay tuned!!..My Betty will be making her debut very soon! ;-)

Here is my first finish of the Year!!..His egg-timer didn't go off,
so he's a little late arriving!..lol..He is a challenge doll for
the yahoo International hand-stitchers group,..but oops..maybe he doesn't quite
fit the scheme of fantasy?? regardless, I feel like a winner already since he's not a swap, I get to keep him! ;-)
His egg was one of my left-over paper mache snow-globes, so glad it didn't go to waste, and it's bubbling over with celebratory champagne made simply with glittered bubble wrap...The doll was a pattern adapted from the freebie Mannequin pattern by Judi Ward. I altered it by doing some strategic stuffing and sculpting.
Oh Yes!, and his clock which forever strikes Midnight, is made from a small,grungied jar lid.
The last pic of the rear view has my parting shot to 2009!..Here's hoping for better
days to come..ok!..I go to my corner now!! ;-D LOL

I made this cake for my husband's family gathering on Saturday.
This is a rich ,nutty, cake that is soaked in a honey-citrus syrup.
For the best flavor, soak overnight and serve chilled.

I've made a couple substitutions..
double the recipe for a layer cake!

Baklava Cake
Cake: Cooking spray
3/4 C. granulated sugar
1/4 C. packed brown sugar
2 T. Vegetable oil
3 large eggs
1/2 matzo cake mix meal.(Not found at Piggly Wiggly ..LOL.., so substituted 1/2 cup all purpose flour,1/4 t. baking powder)
1/2 C. finely chopped walnuts
1/4 C. finely chopped hazel nuts(Also, not found at our Piggly Wiggly..LOL..so pecans worked just fine!);-)
4 T. fresh orange juice.
1/4 t. salt

Syrup:
2/3 C. granulated sugar
14 C. honey
1/3 C. fresh orange juice
3 T. of water
1 T of fresh lemon juice
1/4 t. ground cinnamon

Preheat oven 350 degrees F.

To prepare cake..coat a 9in round cake pan with cooking spray. Place 3/4 cup of granulated sugar and next 4 ingredients in a large bowl; beat at medium speed for 2 minutes..Siir in Matzo (flour baking pwdr. mixture) and next 5 ingredients, beating until well blended. Pour into prepared pan.

Bake a 350 degrees for 35 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly touched..cool completely..

To prepare syrup, combine 2/3 cup of granulated sugar and remaining ingredients in a heavy saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer 25 minutes or until slightly thick, stirring occasionally. Cool completely..Pierce top of cake several times with a fork; pour syrup over cake...cover and chill ;-)

This pair of muslin pants were made up for fitting purposes only, and I'm so happy to report that Dad came by for a fitting and were a perfect fit!..Now onto the choice fabrics and work-shirt! ;-)

What I've been up to lately!

I've been doing a bit of Historical garment sewing for my father!
My latest projects are a pair of "Narrow Fall Pants" using a pattern from
Rocking Horse Farm...and a "Voyager's shirt" from Eagle's View Publishing..

I've never had an occasion to sew Narrow Fall Men's breeches before, So I've been
studying pictures of museum pieces to be able to visualize the very interesting and clever construction which was common from about the time of the French Revolution thru the 1890's in varying degrees.

Here's an example from Kent State University Museum of the full length trouser, which is the version I'm making.
Zippers were not invented before the mid 1890's, so these pants are constructed using a a front flap with a button closure across the waistband. They do seem to be practical,comfortable, and convenient. However, I'll let my dad be the judge of that! LOL!!...
I'm nearly done with the muslin mock-up, and will post pics very soon!
And, I bet my Dad would be most willing to give a pose in his New Historical attire!;-)HERE, Designer Marc Jacobs resurrected this construction idea for a pair of FAB sailor inspired trousers!...MORE LATER!!! ;-)

I'm Still Here!! And A New Look!!

WoW!!..Time sure flies!!..It's been too long since my last post!
Been dusting off the cobwebs here at the blog!...What do you all think
of my New Look?? As always, my friend Annette, of Huckleberry Arts has done
a fabulous job customizing my banner and blog!..I supplied pics of my kitchen
a couple of my works, and chose my own colors,(yes, I'm to blame for the brights!)ROFlol..and she does the rest.
She is the best to work with, and I know she'd love to customize any kind
of blog or banner for you too!

On the homefront,
I've been called upon to work a-bit more at my part-time job at the
Scout office...which is GREAT!!! and I'm so thankful!!
Every bit helps during these precarious times, but it does call me away from my projects...I'm not as skilled in Time Management as my friend Sue of Rabbit Hollow Prims, but I'm working on it!..LOL!!
I do have a sneak peak of a
work in progress to share...It's different from anything I've done before.
It's a poseable soft sculpture elf!..Never did a detailed soft sculpt before now,
so I've been teaching myself at a very slow pace.
I really love how he's coming along....What do you think so far??

Doesn't this picture look like it could be a warm,summer day???..LOL!!..Nope..in fact, I froze my tushie off to get this snapshot!!..;-D
This tiny gal is only 4 inches tall! She is made from paper-clay and wrapped wire. She wasn't pre-planned, or designed from a sketch in any way, she just emerged
from the clay as I was playing with it!..I hadn't done anything with clay in over a year!..I definitely need to practice more!!

Took it's time getting here; Winter has finally arrived in Georgia.
Normally I hate cold weather, but there is the other side of winter that I find very appealing. The unspoken permission to rest. The Earth is resting, so I decided after a couple of futile, "false starts"...I needed to rest too!;-) This is the perfect time for cheerful little projects for the home.
I especially enjoy making things for my kitchen!

I LOVE the tutorial for potholders at Freda's Hive

Making kitchen towels from vintage embroidery patterns is another favorite quiet activity.
Go here to Tip Nut. They have several free vintage patterns to choose from. I think My favorite is the
dish pattern from the 1930's..I Love the art deco shapes!

And finally from Lizzy house is this free Housewares quilt pattern using the line
of fabrics called "Lizzy Dish". WOW!!!!...this fabric line is sooo ME!!! It would be perfect with my collection of Fiesta Ware!..I Must get some!

So give yourself permission to "Nest", relax, and enjoy!!..Spring and all it's busy activity is just around the corner!!

For the First Time, I'm Trying my hand at a crazy quilt block!. The piecing is done, now comes the hard part, Which is deciding which appliques, specialty stitches and trims I'll be using to embellish it!...I have no idea what this will look like, or where it will lead..I'm just playing and enjoying the process.

I belong to a Yahoo craft group called International Prim Doll-makers..
Our first project of 2009 will be progressive through-out the year. The theme is "Annie in the Garden" We all will be stitching a redwork block every month,swapping with a different partner, so at the end, we will have a block piece stitched by each of our friends..later, there will be a contest of the best project using all our swapped blocks...Here's a pic of my first block of the series...

The 3 Wise Men have come and gone, and I hope you all had a wonderful, and blessed holiday Season!!..We sure did!!
My kiddos have finally gone back to school and Hubby is
back at work, leaving me to "The Big Tidy Up"!! I was given this book with that same phrase when I was a small child...hmmmm...I wonder why!..and why do I still remember it??!!..;-D ROFL!!
Ah!!..at least now I have my computer to myself again! (wink)

I still have lots more housekeeping to do here in my virtual world. And since my real world work area is all tidy again,(but,not for long..lol) I already have lots of new projects in various stages of planning and execution which I'll be sharing real soon.

Oh Holy Night

Here we are at the end of our journey, and the beginning of the true meaning of the Season we celebrate...I have worked hard, but yet, many things I planned will not be.
Some gifts wont get sewn, cards won't get written, and recipes wont get baked.
But in the end, I'm at peace with my efforts because the commercialized deadline is not what matters.
What matters is the TIME and TOGETHERNESS we share as we gather with friends and family over the next several days.

The Toy Society Christmas Drop

I've been on a mission today for The Toy Society!
Here's a pic of little Timmy and his toy boat!

Here he is at the entrance of the play ground waiting to be noticed and
taken home.

The Toy Society is such a neat idea for a simple random act of kindness.
I don't know if I'll ever find out who takes him home..but it's neat to know he'll be
a unexpected surprise in someone else's day! ;)

So sorry for the bad pic...It was snapped in a rush!
I finally finished this set yesterday! Made from thrifted fabrics it was finished just in nick of time, before it was time to go to the family Christmas gathering!! I think they turned out pretty cute, and my MIL loved them! ;-)
I used a pattern from Pat Sloan's Farmer's Market applique quilt pattern, which is so generously available for free!!! You can find it here...Oh I wish I could get my hands on her wonderful fabrics!...I love how she puts those whimsical prints together!
Perhaps a project for myself in the New Year!(wink) ;-)

Fabric Play; A Christmas Gift in Progress

This is just one idea I'm playing around with today..It's a kitchen towel set for my
MIL..I'm planning a set of three...
None of my fabrics in my stash match very well, coming from random resources such as
thrift shops and cut clothing, and remnant bins...so we shall see if somehow a gift worthy for giving emerges!..;-)

Santa...A Crafter's Christmas Poem..

Twas the night before Christmas, I'm glued to the tree.
I'm wondering what Santa brought just for me.
Could it be cardstock or chipboard or lace?
Or a Cricut, I said, with a smile on my face.
And that's when I heard him,
"Hi Santa, " I said
"You know....good little girls
should be in their beds."
"I know I should Santa,
and now I've got caught.
But I was just so excited
To see what you brought."
